Koorda graingrowers Gary and Ryan Greaves are looking to the future, and exploring the capabilities of top-of-the line spreaders.
McIntosh & Son, Wongan Hills branch manager Kyle Lance and sales representative Jason McVea, were happy to give them a demonstration of the AgriSpread AS2000 series 150T model last Friday afternoon at their farm, Journey’s End.
“We had a bit of lime to spread and McIntosh & Son were showing us what we could use, down the line and for future reference,” Ryan Greaves said.
Earlier in the year, Mr McVea delivered a Morris seeding rig to the father-and-son duo.
The T8.380 tractor was part of the demo unit, and Mr McVea wanted to highlight to Mr Greaves the tractor’s Auto Command.
“We’re spreading some lime sand, and we’ll have the machine set up with the 540 BKT tyres,” Mr McVea said.
“We’re just doing a blanket rate of 1000 kilograms, he (Ryan Greaves) is pretty impressed so far, I think.” Mr McVea said one of the biggest keys to spreading was accuracy.
“The AgriSpread is going to be as close to perfect in terms of accuracy as you will get,” he said.
“Part of that is because of the way that the machine is set up, and part of that is because of the support we get from our supplier.” The AgriSpread AS2000 can spread fertiliser as far as 48 metres and lime as far as 15m.
The bin utilises variable rates using mapping technology, accurately applying products with variable bulk density using dynamic auto calibration.
Four load cells and a variable speed floor belt guarantee the target rate, whatever the forward speed. A few of the spreader’s features have undergone a redesign, including its bin hopper shape and its spreading deck system with adjustable rear deck positioning.
This spreader has been built to last, with all nuts, bolts and hydraulic fittings made from stainless steel. A range of hitches is available for this spreader, too, allowing for various options for hitch types and sizes.
All up, the spreader demonstration covered about 200 hectares with lime, Mr Greaves said.

Mr Greaves said the biggest thing that stood out to him was the machine’s huge capacity, at 15 tonnes.
“It was spreading 12m on a windy day, and it was spreading quite evenly, and quite well,” he said.
He said the Border Control feature was another highlight, which allowed for the adjustment of the spinner speed from inside the cab – at just the touch of a button, minimising wastage and overthrow.
Mr Greaves was happy with the rainfall received so far this year. “This season, we’ve pretty much had the same rainfall as last year,” he said.
“But this year, it’s all been in the growing season, so the crops were definitely in a better spot than what we were this time last year.
“I think we’ve just ticked over 200 millimetres of rain this year, with 170mm of that in the growing season.”
